Mitchell's 15 year old friend Angela died in a fatal vehicle crash. Mitchell was deeply affected by the loss of her friend and composed a song Angel for Angela on her debut album. Mitchell also wrote about her experiences in her book Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul and in the 7th Heaven episode Nothing Endures But Change.
